The beauty and strength of granite have long been admired. From the Egyptians to the Romans to the Renaissance to present day, artists, architects and designers have used granite to add beauty to their work.

The Boston Granite Exchange team searches the world for the most beautiful stone available. We source it and bring it home to our New England showrooms to be chosen as a stunning focal point in homes like yours.

Granite is in demand around the world. Boston Granite Exchange has a vast selection of beautiful granites for you to explore as you narrow down your choices for your new kitchen countertops, outdoor kitchen or fireplace surround. An American granite that stands out is called Jet Mist. From a quarry nestled in the Blue Ridge Mountains of Virginia, this beautiful, hard granite is deep charcoal with wispy grey or white veins that look like mist. About 60% is exported mainly to Europe, with a growing market in Asia. Jet Mist granite travels around the world under several aliases including Virginia Mist and Virginia Black granite.

Granites, including Jet Mist, weather well, so the stone is often used outdoors as wall panels, pavers and in monuments and statues and is prominent in office buildings as an outside façade or as wall panels in lobbies. Bates College in Lewiston, Maine used Jet Mist for pavers, while the most notable uses of Jet Mist granite include the Ground Zero Memorial in New York City and the Sean Collier Memorial at MIT.
