As the year winds down, we are looking ahead to 2025. This is the time each year when we begin to share emerging design trends. It’s always interesting to see which trends stay with us, which return over time and what is new and different in the world of design. Here are six trends we’re seeing for the New Year:
1. Countertop as Backsplash
Extending your countertop up the wall as backsplash gives your kitchen a clean, uniform look. We’ve seen this in the past year or so and the trend continues to grow in popularity. Without the grout lines of tiles, cleaning is easier and the look extends the life of your kitchen with its timeless beauty.
2. Bold Stone
Whether it is bold colors or striking veining, kitchen surfaces will be making a statement in 2025. Monochromatic kitchens are still around but they’ll be taking a back seat to the big bold colors – especially the exciting colors found in quartzite which has been gaining in popularity. Quartzite is colorful, unique and stunning and homeowners have been embracing its natural beauty. For those who still want white, the trend is to spice things up with gold or dark-colored veining.
3. Combination Islands
These islands offer split usage, with 50-60% of the space below the island having closed storage and the remainder of it only having drawers leaving the area below the counter open to allow room for bar stools, so the island can be functional and conversational.
4. Eat-in Kitchens
These never really went out of style. People naturally gravitate to the kitchen; the pandemic brought many families back around the kitchen table – perhaps reluctantly at first – but now they are a warm and comfortable setting for family meals, a tradition rediscovered when we all had to be at home.
5. Butler’s Pantries
The trend for butler’s pantries, or “dirty kitchens” as some are calling them, is continuing into 2025. These hide the work area of the kitchen behind closed (sometimes hidden) doors so the main kitchen is always tidy. You can learn more about the variations on the modern butler’s pantry in this blog.
6. A Splash of Red
Red is popping up all over the house. A small, incongruous pop of red in a space that has no other red such as a red fruit bowl, red potholders, or red flowers on the windowsill. Just one small touch of incongruous red in the room is eye-catching and an emerging design trend.
