We are in awe of the beauty that comes from nature. Every day, we are struck by the beauty of a marble or the rich color and design of a stunning granite. All from nature. It truly is amazing.

If you’re thinking about updating your kitchen or planning an outdoor kitchen, you may be researching options that are earth friendly. In honor of Mother Earth, we wanted to highlight the many options you can consider as part of your decision-making process:

1. Natural Stone

What is more natural than natural stone?! Literally, it comes directly from nature and is naturally beautiful and unique. Additionally, the natural-stone industry has adopted new technologies to conserve natural resources, reduce pollution and minimize waste as these stones are quarried. Also, natural stones including granite, marble, soapstone and quartzite can be recycled or repurposed. If you are replacing natural stones as part of your home improvement project, consider how you could repurpose the stone for your ongoing enjoyment!

2. Sustainable Practices

Research manufacturers who adopt sustainable practices. Many whom we work with, including Laminam porcelain, Quantra Quartz and COMPAC, have made corporate commitments to the responsible use of resources. Their efforts include using recycled water, planting trees to offset carbon emissions, and extensive waste management efforts.

3. New Alternatives

Choose materials that are recyclable or made from recycled material. In addition to all natural stones being recyclable, Boston Granite Exchange offers additional beautiful surface options to consider for your home:

  • As part of The BGE Quartz Collection, COMPAC has launched a new category of sustainable surfaces called Obsidiana. Obsidiana is a 100% recycled and recyclable material.
  • Laminam porcelain uses over 94% naturally sourced material, and all of their products contain 20-40% pre-consumer recycled materials. Laminam is imported from Italy and is recyclable.

To view these surfaces in person, please call to set up an appointment in one of our showrooms. We’re confident you will find the stone that best fits your desires, lifestyle and budget.
