Five Kitchen Design Trends for 2026
It’s that time of year, the leaves are falling, there’s a nip in the air and we’re reviewing 2026 kitchen design trends. Here are five kitchen trends we’ve noted for 2026:
1. Dramatic Veining
Natural stone countertops are always in fashion. What we’re seeing now is a shift to more dramatic looks with natural stones like quartzite, marble and granite. Striking colors and bold veining are the vibe for 2026. Blues, greens and golds are still dominant and gorgeous natural stones that have these striking expressions and other colors are definitely in demand.
2. Bold choices
In keeping with the desire for dramatic stones, homeowners are also making design decisions that don’t always take the resale value of their home into consideration. This means fewer white and beige kitchens and more color on countertops, cabinets and appliances. Stainless steel appliances have some competition as manufacturers produce major appliances in greens, blues, golds and even pink. Kitchens are starting to showcase homeowners’ personalities.
3. Shapes
Shapes are cropping up in several ways for 2026. Adding interest to the bolder countertops are unique edge profiles. Bullnose, half bullnose, beveled, ogee, mitered, waterfall, eased and raw; all have pros and cons so if you are looking into a unique edge profile, take a look at them and think about who uses your kitchen and how. This will guide you to choose the best edge for you.
Another way shapes are becoming part of kitchen design in 2026 is the addition of curves to countertops. Curved countertops and islands change the look of the room, creating a softer look and improving traffic flow and creating natural gathering points in the room. Additionally, waterfall islands are still popular for the beauty and drama they add to the room.
4. Hidden Pantries
We’ve discussed in a previous blog the growing popularity of the hidden pantry or butler’s pantry. Designers have succeeded in making this space virtually invisible yet entirely accessible. It is a game changer for busy kitchens and in 2026 they will continue to be a homeowner favorite.
5. Induction Cooking
Electric cooking is having a resurgence as cooking with gas sees a decline. Induction stoves are becoming increasingly popular among homeowners and chefs. They offer precision, speed, and energy efficiency while keeping kitchens cooler and safer, too – they turn off when the pan is removed for an extended period of time. Induction surfaces are also easy to clean and are better for indoor air quality than gas. If you’re worried about whether you’ll need to purchase new cookware for an induction stove here’s a quick tip from Chef Alton Brown, an induction skeptic turned enthusiast: if a magnet holds on your cookware you can use it for an induction stove.
