Frequently Asked Questions

What is quartz?

Quartz is an engineered stone, so it is a fabricated stone not a natural stone such as marble or granite.

What is porcelain?
Porcelain is an ecofriendly, man-made material comprised of up to 94% clay, feldspar and silicon. The remaining percentage is glass, enamels, pigment and binder. Porcelain is processed under extremely high pressure and temperatures to create a strong, durable solution with a hardness of 7-9 on the Mohs scale. Because of its unique manufacturing process, porcelain slabs are available in larger formats and much thinner densities than other surfaces.
How does Boston Granite Exchange fit into a home project?

The roles of the various parties can be confusing! Boston Granite Exchange has multiple showrooms for you to visit and select the stone and the actual slabs that you want for your project. The majority of our visitors are remodeling their kitchen, but we also help people select stones for an outside kitchen, a countertop for a bar, a fireplace surround, an accent wall, and shower surrounds as well as marble floors. Visit us to select your natural stone or quartz design, and we will deliver the stone to the fabricator to prepare and install the stone for you.

What is a fabricator, and how do you work with them?

A fabricator converts the natural stone or quartz slab into the finished product — whether a fireplace surround, kitchen countertops, vanity top or bar as examples. The fabricator cuts the stone and typically installs it. At Boston Granite Exchange, fabricators are our customers, and we deliver the slabs or materials to them regularly.

How many slabs will I need for my kitchen countertops?

Your fabricator will assist you in determining the number of slabs you will need based on the countertop design and dimensions.

Do you have natural stones from the United States?

Yes, we do.
